Web Insertion Machine

The Web Insertion Machine was developed in collaboration with SENTRY to streamline the assembly of foldable insulated concrete forms immediately after the molding process. Designed with efficiency and precision in mind, it automates the insertion of webs, improving production speed and consistency. The Notepad contributed the complete mechanical design and provided ongoing support throughout manufacturing and assembly, ensuring a reliable and well-integrated solution.

Project Detail

Summary

The Web Insertion Machine was designed alongside SENTRY to assemble foldable insulated concrete forms immediately following the form molding process. The Notepad’s portion of this project included all mechanical design with support throughout manufacturing and assembly.

Challenges

The new development of foldable ICF blocks that allow for more cost-effective shipping brought about a new problem of final assembly of the blocks. Unlike traditional ICF blocks that are released from the mold process as a complete product, the foldable blocks require the webs to be inserted as a secondary process. The web insertion process could take no longer than 90 seconds in order to keep up with the molding process.

Results

An electro-pneumatic machine with full automation capabilities and built in maintenance support, receiving individual foam blanks directly from the mold machine and assembling 3 ICF blocks at one time. The machine can assemble the blocks in roughly half of the required cycle time of 90 seconds, with the additional capability to stage foam preassembly to allow time for reloading webs into the machine.
